Clearwater Sod & Mulch
Sod installation and mulch installation, done right the first time — not squeezed between a mowing route.
Dead patches, thin Bahia, beds that have not seen fresh mulch in two years. We install and deliver sod and mulch across Clearwater and Pinellas County with materials cut fresh for the job, not pulled off a truck that has been sitting in a parking lot since sunrise.
We'll call you within one business day. If it's urgent — sod delivery you need this week — call (727) 285-9041 and we'll move you up.

What we do
Sod & mulch services in Clearwater, FL
One dead patch or a full-yard sod tear-out and replace — same crew, same standards. Every install starts with a grading and irrigation check so we are not laying fresh sod over problems that will kill it in a month.
Sod and mulch are the only things we do. Not full landscaping, not weekly lawn care, not tree work that sod and mulch get squeezed in around. That focus is why we can tell you within a few minutes of walking your yard whether the ground will hold new sod, or whether the irrigation needs attention first. Across Pinellas County we have installed sod and mulch on lawns with everything from sandy barrier-island soil to heavy inland clay — different soil, different prep, different answers, and a flat written price for all of it before any work starts.

Not all mulch behaves the same in Florida
The mulch you pick decides how long the color lasts, how it drains, and whether it floats away in the first summer downpour. Tap through the four we install most in Clearwater.

The difference
Dead and patchy, or thick and green
Drag the handle. Old, thinning grass goes brown, holds weeds, and dies in bare patches — which is when the sand and the runoff start winning.
What we check on every job
A sod install that fails early almost always fails for one of four reasons. We inspect all four before quoting, so the number you get is the number you pay.
- 01GradingLow spots hold water and rot new sod at the roots. We grade before a single pallet is cut open.
- 02IrrigationHeads that do not reach every corner leave dry strips within weeks. We run the system before quoting.
- 03Weed-killSod laid over live weeds gets pushed back up within a season. Old growth gets killed and cleared first.
- 04Sod freshnessWe order to arrive the day of install, not stacked on a pallet losing moisture for a week.

How your install actually goes
Four steps, in order. You will know what is happening at each one.

Free on-site estimate
We come out, measure the yard, check grading and irrigation, and test the soil. You get a written flat price and a sod or mulch recommendation — not a range shouted over the phone.
Usually within 24–48 hours
Prep & grading
We kill and clear old growth, grade low spots, and check every irrigation head so water reaches the whole yard once new sod goes down.
Furniture and beds protected
Install
Fresh-cut sod or bulk mulch delivered same-day and installed edge to edge with tight seams, or spread to the right depth by bed type.
Most yards finish same day
Walkthrough & cleanup
We walk the yard with you, cover the watering schedule, haul off debris, and leave the driveway swept. Warranty starts that day.

The crew in your yard
Sod and mulch are all we do — not a landscaping side service. You will meet the same faces on the estimate and on install day.

Walks every estimate personally and writes the price you will pay. Replace this with a real two-line bio — how long in Clearwater, how long doing sod and mulch.

Runs full-yard installs and grading. Swap in a real name and one detail that makes them a person, not a stock photo.

Handles mulch beds, edging and bed prep. One sentence on what they are known for beats a paragraph of adjectives.
A Clearwater crew, not a call center
You talk to the person who will be in your yard. We know which neighborhoods sit on sandy barrier-island soil and which sit on heavier inland clay, and we grade differently for each.
Sod cut fresh, not stockpiled
We order sod to arrive the day of install. Pallets that sit curbside for a week lose moisture and root slower, and we will not sell you that.
Rainy-season priority
Summer downpours wash out fresh mulch and drown new sod that was not graded right. We schedule around the forecast, not around it.
One bed is a real job to us
Plenty of companies will not come out for a single mulch bed. We will, and we will not pad the price to make the trip worth it.
Soil and irrigation problems named up front
If your irrigation will not reach a section we say so during the estimate, not after we have collected for sod that will brown out by August.
Clean site, every time
Old sod and mulch debris leave with us. Beds and furniture go back where they were. The driveway gets swept before we pull out.

What Pinellas County customers say

Our backyard had been half-dead Bahia for two years and three companies never called back. These guys quoted it on a Tuesday, sodded the whole thing Thursday, and it has stayed green through the whole summer. Price matched the estimate exactly.
Asked three places for mulch and only one gave me an actual per-yard price on the phone. Crew showed up on time, edged the beds clean, and the color still looks fresh five months later. Would use again for the sod job we are planning.
Irrigation had a dead zone and the old company never mentioned it, so the sod they installed died in the same spot every time. This crew fixed the head first, then sodded it. Six months later that patch is the greenest part of the yard.
Ordered mulch delivery for a weekend I had off and they had a full truckload dumped in the driveway right on schedule, no waiting around all day for a window. Saved me a trip to the yard in the truck.
Island lot with sandy soil that ate through two prior sod jobs in a year. They actually explained why and switched us to a more drought-tolerant variety instead of just reselling the same thing that failed before.
Beds around the whole property needed a full tear-out and re-edge after years of neglect. Clean, straight lines and they hauled off every bit of the old mess. House finally looks like the rest of the neighborhood.

Questions
Clearwater sod & mulch FAQs
Most full-yard sod installs in the Clearwater area land between $0.55 and $0.95 per square foot installed, so a typical 4,000 sq ft yard runs roughly $2,200 to $3,800. The spread comes down to sod variety, how much old grass and weeds need clearing first, and grading. We quote a flat written price on site so the number does not move.
A standard residential yard is usually a one-day job. Full-yard tear-outs with grading, and lots over about 8,000 sq ft, typically run two days. We give you a realistic window at the estimate rather than promising same-day on everything.
Yes, and we do not inflate the price to make the trip worthwhile. Spot repairs typically run per-pallet plus a small install fee. One thing to know: if the surrounding grass is more than a couple years older than the patch, a fresh section will visibly stand out in color and texture for a season. We tell you that up front so you can decide whether to do a larger section instead.
For most Pinellas County yards, Floratam is the right balance of shade tolerance, cost and density. Zoysia costs more but handles foot traffic and drought better once established, and Bahia is the budget option for large, low-maintenance lots that get full sun. We will recommend one based on your sun exposure and irrigation, not the one with the best margin.
We check irrigation on every estimate and flag dead zones, but we do not do irrigation repair ourselves. If a head or zone needs work, we will tell you plainly before quoting sod, because new sod laid over a dry spot dies in the same spot every time. We can recommend irrigation contractors we trust.
Plan on topping off pine bark and cypress every 9 to 14 months in the Clearwater climate, and pine straw every 2 to 3 months if you want the color fresh, though it still functions as weed suppression well past that. Rubber mulch is the exception at 8 to 10 years or longer since it does not break down.
Pine straw is our lightest, fastest-draining option and it is what most azalea and camellia beds do best under. It is worth knowing the trade-off: it fades in color faster than bark, so many homeowners use it on planting beds and switch to bark or cypress in the beds closest to the house where appearance matters most.
Yes, if it is graded right. The biggest risk is not the rain itself but standing water in low spots that rots new roots before they establish. We grade every yard before install specifically to handle Florida downpours, and our 1-year warranty covers establishment issues when you follow our watering plan.
Only for the estimate and the final walkthrough. Once the price is approved, most customers hand off yard access and go about their day. We text you when we arrive, when we finish, and if anything unexpected turns up in the soil or irrigation.
Yes. Sod delivery-only and mulch delivery-only are both listed services if you or your crew want to install it yourselves. We deliver fresh-cut sod the same day it is cut, not off a stockpiled pallet, and bulk mulch by the cubic yard.
